In the hunt for the semis for so long, Kurri just didn't get the runs needed this season to give their bowlers the support needed.
On Saturday, despite Abel's 76-minute effort which included six sixes and seven fours, Kurri could only manage 176, bowled out in 36.4 overs. Giving up more than 13 overs of batting time was always going to make it tough and, not surprisingly, Wests overhauled the total in 41 overs.
The victory meant Wests wrapped up fourth place and a semi final position along with Norths, Thornton and minor premiers City United.
Before the season began Abel was asked the key to a successful season for Kurri. He said the question mark was whether they could score enough runs consistently. In the end he was right.
