Entries are now open for the 2021 Hunter Region Business Excellence Awards.
Now in its 27th year, it is one of the region's longest-running and most prestigious awards events.
The event was first held in 1993 as the Cessnock-Kurri Kurri Small Business Awards; later became the Lower Hunter Business Excellence Awards after encompassing the Maitland and Dungog shires; and in 2007 was renamed the Hunter Region Business Excellence Awards and were opened to businesses throughout the entire Hunter region.
After last year's awards were cancelled due to the pandemic, Hunter Region Business Hub general manager Kerry Hallett said the 2021 awards present a great opportunity for businesses to share their excellence and gain recognition, especially those who have continued to thrive during these trying times.
"The last 14 months have been particularly challenging and those businesses that have continued the path of positivity and growth are the businesses that need to enter," she said.
Ms Hallett said the awards are professionally judged and provide a sought-after, trusted source of information for consumers, with previous winners and finalists experiencing a significant increase in business afterwards.
There are 12 general business categories along with additional major awards such as Young Entrepreneur, Business Woman of the Year and Hunter Business of the Year.
Entries close on August 1, and the awards will be presented at a gala dinner at Club Maitland City on September 24.
