When you're designing your baby's room, you need to ensure that it is not only aesthetically pleasing but that it is functional and practical too.

Whether you are a new parent or your family is getting larger, it's crucial that you take the time to plan out your baby's bedroom properly.

Taking the time to decide between buying a bassinet vs cot, what size changing table to get, what colour to paint the room and all of the other minor details is very important.

Knowing that your baby is sleeping safe and sound is comforting and will help you to get the rest you need.

However, at some point, you will need to move them out and into their own bedroom.

Not just for your baby's sake but also for your own sanity. Having your baby's room planned in advance will help to make sure that this transition is as seamless as possible.

Let's take a look at a few tips and tricks that will help you to plan your baby's first bedroom without any unnecessary stress.

Research your options

When you're planning out your baby's bedroom design, there are multiple things you should consider. The first thing to think about is, of course, your baby's safety and comfort.

There are countless options available nowadays when it comes to nursery furniture and baby gear, equipment and supplies. Be sure to take your time choosing the right solutions for you and your little one.

Choose the right bed

There is a range of different options when it comes to choosing somewhere for your baby to sleep.

In most cases, however, the two primary choices will be a cot or a bassinet. Typically a bassinet is used for the first six months.

After that, it's best to move the baby to a cot since they will require a little more space than what's available in a small bassinet.

Before moving them to a cot, make sure that it has a very firm mattress to provide adequate support and that it is devoid of toys, blankets and anything else that the baby might lay on and injure themselves.

Choose the right colours

When planning the design of your baby's bedroom, be sure to spend some time considering the different colour options.

Soft colours, like blues, greens, yellows and whites are all great choices as they help to create a calm, relaxing atmosphere in the baby's room.

Using these colours will not only help your baby to get a good night's sleep, but it will also help you to feel calmer and at ease during those difficult parenting moments.

When should you move your baby to their own room

It is recommended that babies sleep in a room with their parents for at least the first six to twelve months of their life.

The main reason for this is that it vastly reduces the chance of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). As well as this, it ensures that the baby is close enough to the mother to help with breastfeeding, which strengthens the bond between the child and the parent.

Once your baby doesn't need regular nighttime feedings or doesn't wake up every three hours, then they are grown up enough to move into their own room. However, as mentioned earlier, it's best to wait at least six months before you do this to ensure their safety and well-being.

Create the perfect baby bedroom for your little one

Planning and setting up your baby's first bedroom can be daunting in the beginning. However, with the right approach and by following the tips outlined above, you can be sure that both you and your baby will be comfortable in their new bedroom.
