The service is available at Cessnock and Kurri Kurri libraries on weekdays from 9am to 5pm, and items can be reserved by phone or via the library website for pick up at an agreed time.
Library services coordinator Rose-marie Walters is pleased to be able to offer this service to residents during what has been a difficult time for many.
"The current lockdown restrictions have put a lot of additional stress on local residents and businesses, and I know many people use reading as a chance to relax and unwind," Ms Walters said.
"We have designed a contactless and stress-free pick up system, whereby residents can just call us once they arrive and the items will be placed on a table outside the library doors.
"Once you have finished with your items, simply return through the chute and there will be no overdue fees."
Prior to being able to offer the Click/Call and Collect service, library staff were making 'care calls' to active members of the library aged 65 and over.
Staff would phone to make sure library members were OK, and to offer assistance getting started with the 24/7 eBranch where there was access to an internet connection.
"The library members we contacted were very appreciative to have been thought of, and there has been so much positive feedback," Ms Walters said.
