After a weekend in the 30s, the mercury reached just 14.8 degrees in Cessnock on Monday - 10.6 degrees below the October maximum - and about 40mm of rain fell in the 48 hours up to 9am Tuesday.
Showers are forecast on Wednesday and Thursday, easing by Friday for a sunny weekend, with highs of 20 to 27 degrees and lows ranging from 7 to 10.
