The Christmas spirit will be on full display in and around the Cessnock local government area this December, with a bumper program of free family events happening throughout the month.

From music to movies, arts and crafts to competitions, magic shows to stories, there's bound to be something for everyone.
In lieu of the traditional Carols at the Park event, a number of pop-up Christmas carol performances will be held across the LGA, with entertainers including Anna Weatherup and Trinity Woodhouse performing classic and contemporary Christmas favourites.
These shows will be held at Bridges Hill Park on December 17 from 10am; Maybury Peace Park, Weston on December 18 from 10am; and outside council's administration building on December 20 from 1pm, and Cessnock Library on December 22 from 11am.

Cessnock Youth Centre and Outreach Service (CYCOS) have a host of activities planned both on and offline, including trivia, anime drawing and take-home DIY Christmas ornament packs, plus and an afternoon of Christmas crafts, fun and games at Turner Park (December 15, 2pm-5.30pm; contact CYCOS to register).
Cessnock Performing Arts Centre will host award-winning magician Joel Howlett (December 21, 10.30am and 1pm); along with screenings of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (December 15, 6.30pm); The Santa Clause (December 17, 6.30pm) and A Christmas Carol (December 22, 2pm).
CPAC will also be the venue for Cessnock Library's Christmas Storytime (December 14, 11am), with special guests Ship 'O' Fools and Santa. Bookings are essential and can be made through CPAC.
