The Christmas spirit will be on full display in and around the Cessnock local government area this December, with a bumper program of free family events happening throughout the month.

From music to movies, arts and crafts to competitions, magic shows to stories, there's bound to be something for everyone.

In lieu of the traditional Carols at the Park event, a number of pop-up Christmas carol performances will be held across the LGA, with entertainers including Anna Weatherup and Trinity Woodhouse performing classic and contemporary Christmas favourites.

These shows will be held at Bridges Hill Park on December 17 from 10am; Maybury Peace Park, Weston on December 18 from 10am; and outside council's administration building on December 20 from 1pm, and Cessnock Library on December 22 from 11am.
