Heavy rainfall has forced the closure of a number of roads around Cessnock on Friday.

As of 11am Friday, the following roads were closed:

  • Old North Road, Rothbury
  • Alkira Avenue Cessnock, between Pangari Parade and Coulson Avenue
  • Robinia Way, Cessnock
  • Lomas Lane, Nulkaba

The Black Creek causeway on Old North Road went under on Thursday night, rising almost 1.5 metres between 7pm and midnight, and was at four metres and rising by 11am Friday.

Residents are reminded never to drive through floodwater, be aware of driving hazards such as mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees or branches.

If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, storm drains, low-lying areas and floodwaters.

All of Cessnock council's grass sporting fields were closed on Friday, with a further announcement to be made on Monday.
