Festive family fun is on the program as churches around Cessnock City prepare to celebrate Christmas.
Following last year's successful event, Cessnock-Bellbird Uniting Church will hold a COVID-safe community Christmas carols evening at 55 Ingles Lane, Pokolbin on Wednesday, December 22.
Performers include Laura Johnson, Ross Smith, Lothar Nowak, Josh Porter, and MC Chris Frazer from Majestic Music, with a special appearance by Santa Claus.
Guests are welcome to bring a picnic, blanket or chair, torch and bug spray.
If it's raining, the event will be called off.
The carols will run from 6pm to 8pm. Call Anne on 0439 907 211 for more information.
Christ Church Mount Vincent is also taking its carols night outdoors again in 2021.
Carols on the Grass will be held in the grounds of the historic church on Sunday, December 19, starting at 5pm.
"This community event for people of the Mulbring Valley and beyond is now in its third year", said Dr Ann Drew, who is coordinating this year's occasion.
"We've gathered a group of community singers and musicians who will lead the carols in a picnic setting.
"As this is an open-air event, we are able to operate in a COVID-safe way, compliant with the eased NSW Government restrictions.
"We are looking forward to welcoming visitors from the broader community as we celebrate the Christmas season and look with hope towards 2022."
Visitors are encouraged to bring a chair or rug and a picnic.
At the conclusion of the singing, visitors will be welcome to view the recently-refurbished Christ Church hall.
This 110-year old building, which includes elements of the earlier church from the 1880's, has been part-funded by the NSW Government's Community Building Partnerships program facilitated through the office of Cessnock MP Clayton Barr.
While entry to the event will be free of charge, there will be some fundraising stalls towards the work of the parish such as a sausage sizzle, homemade preserves and a small raffle.
In the event of inclement weather, singing will occur in the church and hospitality in the hall.
