The committee is no stranger to the awards, having been awarded Most Innovative Youth Week Program in 2014 and taking out the Best Youth Week Program award last year.
Youth Week 2017 in Cessnock had an action-packed program with 24 free events across the local government area, including crowd favourites such as Take the Stage, Youth Fest, silent discos and outdoor cinemas.
Committee member Phoebe Morris, 20, said the enthusiasm and cooperation from our local young people during Youth Week 2017 was both outstanding and heart-warming.
“Seeing the amount of young people who came together, worked together and had fun was fantastic,” she said.
“These events go to show a working community, along with the generous support from volunteers who help contribute really make a difference.”
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said he was proud of everyone involved for their dedication to young people in our community.
“Our local Youth Week is always absolutely fantastic, made possible by a truly collaborative effort by our passionate committee in partnership with our youth,” he said.
“I am blown away that we have been shortlisted as a finalist for the second year running and this is testament to the hard work that goes in.”
Other finalists in the category include Camden Council, Campbelltown CIty Council, Dubbo Regional Council, Cootamundra-Gundagai Council, Inner West Council, Lake Macquarie City Council, MidCoast Council, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and Wollongong City Council.
The winners will be announced at the Local Government NSW Awards evening in Sydney on August 3.
