The $1.3 million project was officially opened by long-time club member and Australian selector Sam Clough.
The wishbone-design green cover was constructed by award-winning company Lightweight Structures and is thought to be one of only four of its kind in the state.
Clough praised the club’s initiative.
“As we become more and more aware of environmental health problems, bowling clubs with sun and temperature protection will be best positioned to survive,” Clough said.
“The foresight of the current administration of East Cessnock Bowling Club in providing yet another excellent facility for members is certainly admirable.”
A reception followed to honour the club’s victorious district pennant side – Greg Burgoyne, Michael Cronin, Jon Dimopoulos, Tom Doig, Simon Mitchell, Ross Patterson, Phil Cornford, Marc Bender, Michael Parkinson, Danny Mathieson, John Ross and Colin Smith.
