The twin brothers from Quorrobolong entered three of their Barraba Santa Gertrudis Stud heifers in the cattle competition at the recent Royal and were awarded two seconds and junior champion for their respective age groups.
Owned by their grandparents Alfie and Jeanette Smith, Dylan showed Barraba Candy, who placed second in the female 9 and not over 12 months class, while Barraba Connie also placed second in the Santa Gertrudis female over 12 and not over 16 months class.
Barraba Destiny, showed by Jake, also starred in the breed class winning the female 12 and not over 16 months class and was also awarded Junior Champion Female for the Santa Gertrudis breed.
Not to be outdone by their cattle, Jake and Dylan also won the prestigious Best Maintained Team (two to five head) class and received highly commended ribbons in the Heifer Fitting Challenge.
This was the first time the brothers had competed in Sydney, after only starting their showing careers in November at Dungog Show.
Both students at Mount View High, the 16-year-olds get up at 6am every morning to tend to the heifers and are hoping to study breeding when they finish their HSC.
Jake and Dylan said they have received a lot of help and guidance from their grandparents who were both seasoned competitors themselves.
They are now hoping to show the heifers at Brisbane Royal in August.
