Mr. Glen has been granted leave of absence from his position as director of city services at Gosford City Council, who recognised the opportunity for his personal development at Cessnock.
“I was really lucky… I had made it clear to them (Gosford Council) that I want to be a general manager one day and they indicated their support for me achieving that goal,” he said.
Mr. Glen started at Cessnock on June 3 and will hold the position for three to six months while council goes through the process of recruiting a long-term general manager.
He is excited to be working in the Hunter Region, having spent part of his early working life at Alcan and a number of local mines.
“I have always felt an affinity with the area,” he said.
“My first week here I felt I’d been here a long time.
“It’s a great place; I’m enjoying it so far.
“The staff have made me very welcome, they are a fantastic asset for the council and the region.”
Mr. Glen says he is “very much a people’s person” and is looking forward to attending many events.
Cessnock Chamber of Commerce, Kurri 2030 and Parish of Pokolbin meetings and the Weston Art Show are among the functions he has already visited.
