The award recognises Mr. Milgate’s 38 years of service, 23 of which have been as the Local Controller.
Mr. Milgate said he joined the SES after looking out his kitchen window one day and seeing people and houses in distress on the edge of Black Creek.
“I went over to help and someone asked me to join.”
In his time at the SES he has seen funding be increased, which has improved the capacity of the service.
He said that a strong standout memory was from the storms in the local area in 2007, when the service received over 300 calls for assistance.
Mr. Milgate said that what he enjoys most is being able to help the local community.
