Cessnock bowed out of the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union competition on Saturday, with a 31-12 loss in the final against Singleton Army.

Cessnock started well, scoring first through Nic Pringle, then things started to go pear-shaped with Army scoring three unanswered tries.
Cessnock was down to 12 players for 10 minutes, then 13 for most of the game and by this time the game was lost.
Pat Burns scored Cessnock’s second try with Dallas Mountford adding the extras.
Although it was a disappointing way to end the season, Cessnock has had its best year in 10 years, since it won the grand final in 2003. The young side with a mixture of experience has improved year by year for the past three years.

At the NHRU awards night, Cessnock’s captain Adam Flynn won the best and fairest player of the competition. Throughout the night Cessnock was mentioned on the great way they have been improving as a club.
