Last year’s walk went way beyond the organisers’ expectations.
More than 100 people took part in the walk from Maitland Park to Peden’s Hotel, and it raised over $10,000 for Lifeline Newcastle.
The walk was organised by the Sheldon sisters – Kristin, Nicole, Jessica and Sophie – in memory of their brother Patrick, who took his life in May 2012.
“It was a fantastic effort from everyone who took part not only walking but also helping us raise so much money,” Patrick’s sister Jessica Olsen said.
“We met a lot of families affected by suicide who I hope were able to get as much out of the day as our own family did.
“We hope that we can do the same this year and Park to Peden’s will become a legacy not only our brother Pat but for all of our loved ones we have lost to suicide.”
This year two distances will be offered – walkers can take on the 26-kilometre journey from Maitland Park or join in at Peace Park, Weston with 11 kilometres to go.
Registrations close on April 28. Forms are available on the “Park To Peden’s For Pat” Facebook page.
Donations that will go directly to Lifeline Newcastle can be made at https://give.everydayhero.com/au/in-memory-of-pat.
