Members and guests were given a brief history of the club’s achievements and involvement in local and overseas community support over the past 77 years by outgoing president David Clark.
The club committed $24,000 to a wide range of community groups and projects, which this year included Cessnock Girl Guides, Cessnock East Public School, Polio Australia, PNG Teachers Assist Project, Cessnock District Rescue Squad, Cessnock Mayoral Academic Awards, youth programs and Rotary Youth Exchange, Jodie’s Place women’s refuge and Wheeling and Able.
Members had a busy year volunteering at market days, Bunnings barbecues and providing assistance at the Hunter Valley Gardens Christmas Lights Spectacular to provide these funds.
The club presented Innovation and Excellence Awards to John Harvey of the Royal Oak and 221 Restaurant, and to Ross Crump for the revamped PK’s Olde General Store and Out Th’ Back Coffee Garden.
The night culminated in the induction of the incoming board for 2014-15: president, Vicki Steep, and members David Clark, Robyn Drayton, Janette Jackson, Alison Crane, George Koncz, Louise Selmes, Steve Crane, Graham Lidbury and David Lennon.
