New Cessnock High School principal Chris Bice is excited about school’s future

Mr. Bice stepped into the role at the beginning of term three, after previously spending four years at Maitland Grossmann High School where he served as deputy principal. 

This is Mr. Bice’s first role as principal and he said he is very excited about the future of Cessnock High School. 

“This school in particular is one that really interested me,” he said.

“It is a smaller size which means it is easier to get to know all of the students personally. 

“The staff has earned a reputation as being very innovative and really taking on change.

“There are a lot of changes happening in the education system at the moment and I think this school will be one that accepts them a lot more readily.”

With a new three-year education plan ready to be implemented, Mr. Bice said that the core values for the school going forward will be “quality relationships, quality systems and quality teaching”.

“The number one priority will always be the education of our students and for them to achieve their personal best,” he said. 

“You can ask me what I want for the school but at the end of the day it is more about what the teachers, the community and the students want for it. 

“The students will always be at the centre of what I set out to achieve here.”

The school has recently undergone a few developments, with the trade training centre now in full use and new industrial arts facilities currently being developed. 

The school also recently partnered with the Cessnock TAFE in creating a bush tucker garden and courtyard, with a grand opening to be held in October.
