The rodeo will be held at Cessnock Racecourse on Saturday, March 7, the day before the bronze statue of the country music legend will be unveiled at East Cessnock Bowling Club.
After the last two rodeos have been staged out of town, organiser Ros Lindsay said Team “Reg”, along with Newcastle Jockey Club CEO Cameron Williams and the East Cessnock Bowling Club board are delighted to be bringing the rodeo back to Cessnock.
“It is hoped with rodeo leading up to the start of Country Music Week for Cessnock will draw fans for a big Wild West weekend among the wineries,” Ros said, adding that Cessnock Chamber of Commerce is looking to put on a street parade on the morning of the rodeo.
“The rodeo action will be in the centre of the racecourse with the whole arena complex being set up to give patrons a great view,” Ros said.
“With more than $6000 in prizemoney up for grabs, the top cowboys and cowgirls will make their way to the Cessnock Racecourse for this fabulous event.”
The statue unveiling will take place at 11am the next morning, with entertainment to follow.
