Neighbour Rachael Stothard arrived home to see the fire and called emergency services at 12.54pm.
No one was home when the fire broke out.
Nearby residents Blade Stothard and Michael Parkinson noticed a dog in the backyard, and got it to safety unscathed.
Trucks from Cessnock and Bellbird attended the scene and controlled the blaze.
