This year marks not just the centenary of the Anzac landing at Gallipoli, but also the 100th anniversary of the formation of Cessnock City Scout group.
The Scouts are asking for a muster of past and present members to join the current Joey, Cubs, Scouts and Venturer troops to march on Anzac Day on Saturday.
Old uniforms – or at least uniform scarves – can be worn on the day as a mark of respect for the movement.
“We know there a great number of former Scouts in the local community; no doubt using the skills and commitment learnt through their years in the movement, who would want to step up and out with our group,” Scout leader Alisa Goodwin said.
“We can’t name names but we know you’re out there, so please help us put on a great display of Scout strength and unity and join us on Anzac Day.”
Quartermaster David “Butch” Bain said the group is planning a number of centenary celebrations and information will be released in the coming weeks.
“To march on Anzac Day – which we traditionally do – is a great way to start our centenary year,” he said. “And having past members join us would show that our tradition is not just strong, but long standing and as relevant today as in the past.”
The group will meet at between Cessnock Performing Arts Centre and Peden’s Hotel at 10.45am on Anzac Day. Former members can join them there.
