A total of 84.6mm fell in the 24 hours up to 9am last Tuesday, breaking the daily record for April of 72mm, set on April 2, 2009.
The new record only lasted one day, when a further 126.6mm fell in the next 24 hours.
According to Bureau of Meteorology records dating back to 1966, Cessnock’s average April rainfall is 49mm.
Up to Tuesday this week, 297.3mm of rain had fallen in Cessnock in April this year, eclipsing the previous April record of 169.2mm (set in 2008).
But June 2007 remains Cessnock’s wettest month on record, with 352.2mm.
Showers are predicted today with a possible thunderstorm on Thursday, and showers on Friday and throughout the weekend.
