Head shave raises $1800

Mandy underwent the shave at Grice’s Bakery and Café surrounded by family and friends , as well as the students from Congewai Public School where she is the office manager.

The Congewai students looked on in awe as Mandy’s hair started to come off, before starting a chant of “Go Mrs. Dunstan” towards the end.

Mandy was inspired to participate in the shave after two other staff members of Congewai Public did it last year.

Her friend’s 23-year-old son was then diagnosed with leukaemia, which spurred her into action.

“It was all just too close for comfort,” she said.

Mandy’s friends and family collected donations and held a raffle on the day, with estimates of well over $300 collected.

Mandy also has a fundraising page on the World’s Greatest Shave website where she has so far raised $1878, and will be donating the hair to a wig-making company.

Despite feeling nervous in the lead up to the shave, Mandy said she felt good afterwards and was enjoying the feel of her new haircut.

“Everyone will give my head a rub for good luck,” she laughed.
