The Cessnock Hornets suffered two demoralising defeats in a week, with a 3-0 loss to Kahibah last Wednesday, followed up with a poor 5-1 defeat to Cooks Hill at Turner Park on Sunday.

Flanagan’s Menswear Players’ Player awards went to Mathew Zechel and Wade Attewell respectively.
Attewell was inducted as a life member of Cessnock City Football Club after playing his 200th game for the club.
A local junior who made his first grade debut in 2003 at age 18, Attewell has been a constant on the left for Cessnock ever since, with his thunderbolt left foot and mazy dribbling netting him 76 goals.
Attewell was honoured to receive his badge and mug, and spoke humbly about his achievements. He also has been a loyal and entertaining servant for Cessnock, with many more years to come.
The under-23s won their fixture against Kahibah 2-1 with goals to Toby King and Sam Garaty, with Garaty awarded players’ player.
The weekend’s fixture was less impressive, surrendering a two-goal lead to draw 3-all. Gocha Abshilava scored two goals and set up another to take out Flanagan’s Menswear Players’ Player.
The under-19s were defeated 6-0 by Kahibah, with James Collins voted players’ player. They then suffered a 4-1 loss to Cooks Hill with Liam Anderson and Luke Ford sharing Flanagans Menswear Players’ Player.
The under-17s were defeated 5-1 by Kahibah and 5-0 by Cooks Hill, with Brandon Zechel Flanagan’s Menswear Players’ Player on both occasions.
Cessnock travel to Thornton Park on Saturday, hoping to restore pride in all grades. Under-17s kick-off at 1.15pm, under-19s at 3pm, under-23s at 4.45pm and first grade at 6.30pm.
