The Champagne House at Pokolbin, Savannah Estate and Petersons at Mount View have all been fitted with the chargers, with more to come on the Petersons farm in Mudgee and at their guest house in Armidale.
Colin Peterson said the idea came about 12 months ago, when his nephew who owns an electric car approached him about installing chargers.
Mr. Peterson said that they are an environmentally-friendly company and like to be at the forefront of new things so decided to go ahead with the idea.
“People are very environmentally-conscious in this day and age,” Mr. Peterson said.
“It’s just the way things are going.
“Electric cars are becoming more and more popular.
“We are happy to provide a facility to charge them.”
The current chargers installed at the champagne house are generation one models, meaning they can charge up to 50km per hour, with generation two models that charge twice as fast to be implemented in the next few months.
The chargers are fitted for Tesla brand cars, and source the energy from solar panels that Petersons have installed on site.
The champagne house also operates a back-up generator that runs on bio-diesel sourced on site.
Mr. Peterson believes there will be an even bigger increase in the purchase of electric cars as prices become more competitive over the next few years.
Frank Goot of Tesla Motors said in his home of Amsterdam, electric cars are growing in popularity, with some 200 Tesla taxis currently operating in the Dutch capital.
“It’s a way more efficient way of transport with these electric engines,” Mr. Goot said.
