The Terrace used the gale-force westerly at their backs in the first half and didn’t waste too much time by opening the account in the seventh minute.
Lacking confidence and communication, the Roosters were 3-0 down by the 27th minute but they struck back in the 34th minute when the Terrace gave away a free kick just outside the box in the semi-circle.
Doug Howard beat the keeper from a perfectly executed set play after Brenton Odonnell threaded the ball through the Terrace defence like cotton through a needle, taking the score to 3-1 at half-time.
The Terrace once again struck in the first five minutes into the second half, but to the Roosters’ credit they didn’t give up and were very unlucky not to have closed the margin on a number of occasions.
The Terrace were on fire in attack, and had it not been for Kurri’s keeper Steve Anderson and players’ player Tae Rowsell the score could quite easily have blown out to double figures.
The much-anticipated reserve grade fixture, in which both teams needed the win to secure fourth spot on the ladder and more than likely the opportunity to play semi-finals football, ended in a disappointing 3-0 loss to the Roosters.
A lack of commitment let the side down, leaving the team depleted for numbers on the day, that didn’t start that well for the Roosters when the Terrace took to the lead in the fifth minute.
The Roosters’ defence gave the Terrace too much room to unleash a shot that had keeper Paul Marrone out-stretched without a hope.
The 1-0 scoreline continued into the second half and had captain and players’ player Josh Gallagher directing the play from the sweeping position.
Late in the second the Roosters were extremely unlucky not to score an equaliser when in the 74th minute a lack of discipline from Kurri handed the Terrace a penalty and a 2-0 lead.
The Terrace again capitalised over the shell-shocked Roosters two minutes later for a final score of 3-0.
The Roosters will host Plattsburg-Maryland this Saturday for the annual ‘Old Boys Day’, inviting any Roosters past and present.
Reserve grade will kick off at 1.15pm and first grade at 3pm.
