Thirteen clubs participated with players as far north as Lismore, as far south as Port Hacking and all parts in between, staying overnight in the Branxton area.
Cessnock Mayor Bob Pynsent presented prizes to the winners and runners-up of the three divisions.
Block A: winner, Alison Sharp (Killara), who had just returned from competing in the croquet British Open, Scottish Open and the Women’s World Cup; and Tony McArthur (Sutherland), president of Croquet NSW; runners-up, Greg Deakin (Killara) and Trevor Black (Maitland).
Block B: winners, Lana Sexton (Manly) and Charlie Sharpe (Killara), two young up-coming players; runners-up, Lorraine Hatfield and Lynda Toms (Port Hacking).
Block C: winners, Margaret Mellander and Jan Allen (EDSACC Bateau Bay); runners-up, Margaret Redgrove and Ellen Jones (Maitland).
The club thanks sponsors, club members and helpers who made this tournament so very successful.
In other news, Branxton Public School is offering croquet as a sport again this term and 16 students play on Fridays, coached by club president Jacky McDonald (who is the National Director of School Coaching of the Australia Croquet Association).
Branxton players were well-represented and successful in tournaments in Macquarie City and in Toronto. Congratulations to Helen Haines, Maureen Dick, Helen Enright, Anne Kennett, Lorraine and Rob Dillon.
The club handicap singles championship was won Chris Robertson and runner-up David Smith.
