The hall of fame jockey is a frequent flyer to North Queensland tracks and took out one of the feature races on the program, the $100,000 the Parry NQ Classic Plate for three-year-olds, on lightly-raced filly Valley Rose.
Thompson had been on Valley Rose when she finished a close third two weeks prior in a handicap over 1250 metres at Cairns.
The Sebring filly has now won three from seven starts and is trained by Errol Sewell at Townsville.
Sewell also trains Thompson’s other winner, Mountain View, who scored second up over 1400 metres lumping topweight of 59.5 kilograms to a one-length victory.
Mountain View, a 5-year-old gelding went through the New Zealand sale ring and did his early racing in Sydney. Two of his runs were in the 2014 Tulloch Stakes and AJC Derby.
The Townsville wins mirror his successes at Cairns just two weeks prior.
