Kurri Kurri High School Year 12 student Andrew West has been recognised as one of the state’s top school-based trainees.
Andrew received the Rising Star award at the MIGAS Trade Awards, from a record number of nominations across NSW and the ACT.
In conjunction with his HSC studies, Andrew is completing a school-based traineeship in mechanical engineering/fitting and machining at Nupress Tools in Cardiff.
“Selecting Andrew as our NSW and ACT 2016 Rising Star Award winner was a simple choice because of the outstanding commitment he has shown to his traineeship with Nupress Tools, and the way he is skillfully balancing work with his HSC commitments at a relatively young age,” MIGAS Limited group CEO Philip Marwedel said.
“Andrew joins an esteemed group of talented MIGAS State Award winners who are making their mark in Australian industry, and we believe he has tremendous opportunities ahead.”
Andrew said he was “surprised and humbled” to receive the award.
