The day before the match Cessnock lost a former player Nathan (Pup) Fogg.
Fogg played for many years in the number 10, so the number was retired for the day.
The game started with Cessnock scoring beside the posts.
Cessnock then gave up several penalties, resulting in Army running in four tries to lead at half time 26-7.
Cessnock went into the second half “like a boss” as Pup Fogg used to say.
They scored three unanswered tries but fell just short going down 24-26.
Cessnock point scorers were Steve Herring with two tries, Pat Burns with one and Dallas Mountford one try and two conversions.
The Hotel Cessnock Best and Fairest points went to Steve Harris (three) and Lee Herring (two), who also won player’s player, and James Sheridan (one).
Cessnock is away to Medowie this weekend.
