From the Mayor’s Desk: local artists with great talent

It was fantastic to see a healthy number of entries in a range of categories giving artists the opportunity to be recognised for their speciality or demonstrate their versatility in multiple sections.

The quality of art did not disappoint.

Congratulations to Susan Ryman who took out the Major Prize with ‘Devolution’ and to the Regional Art Prize winner Michele Heibel with one of her works, ‘The Overwhelming Minority,’ both sections proudly sponsored by Cessnock City Council.

Also, thank you to the Weston Art Show Committee who does a great job. 

Council accepted a tender at its last Council meeting from Waeger Constructions, with work expected to commence shortly on Frame Drive Bridge, Abermain. 

Relocation of public utilities is expected to start in August with work to start soon after. I very much look forward to seeing the commencement of the construction phase. 

It is now change over time for service clubs across our local government area. This is a chance to acknowledge the wonderful contribution service clubs make to our community.

They provide our community with great support and always put their hand up when we need assistance. A special mention to the Wine Country Rotary Club which has just 5 dedicated members. Despite their small numbers they managed to distribute $12,000 into our community over the last year. 

NAIDOC Week starts Saturday, but celebrations across our community are already under way. Events this week include the Kurri Kurri Cook Off which is all about traditional recipes.
