Firstly I would like to thank the community for once again putting their trust in me and re-electing me as Mayor of Cessnock City Council.
It has been an honour and a privilege to represent our community over the last four years and to have such strong support going forward is overwhelming. I look forward to working hard during my second term and am excited about what we can achieve.
SPRING AWAKENING
On Friday September 9 we welcomed in the new season with Spring Awakening. This unique event did not disappoint with around 500 people taking part in the lantern parade, which left from the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre’s forecourt and finished at the TAFE parklands.
It was brilliant to be leading the parade along with the Cessnock Pipe and Drum band. The inclusion of the band this year was a great idea as they really added to the atmosphere.
It was an incredible sight as we walked into TAFE parklands which had been transformed. The lanterns, the hot air balloon and the roaring fires along with good food, music and entertainment made for a great night out for family.
Congratulations to everyone involved in making this special event a success. Spring Awakening is a highlight on the Council’s events calendar.
MOON FESTIVAL
Over the weekend we welcomed visitors to Cessnock for the inaugural Moon Festival. The festival had a huge range of events including a fantastic performance of Cantonese opera.
It was a great opportunity to show off the Hunter Valley to new visitors.
JETS IN ACTION
In just three days we’ll be packing out Cessnock Sportsground to watch the Newcastle Jets take on the Western Sydney Wanderers in an A-league pre-season hit out. We are excited to bring this event to Cessnock and look forward to seeing you there.
