Cessnock resident Troy McCord adopted a greyhound last year through Greyhounds As Pets, and would recommend the breed to anyone who it thinking about getting a dog.
Mr McCord says his greyhound Sonny (who raced under the name Bob’s Icon) is a fun, low-maintenance pet and a good companion.
“He’s very gentle and affectionate,” Mr McCord said.
“He loves soft toys, but he doesn’t rip them up.
“He does like his tucker, but he doesn’t shed much hair.”
Greyhounds As Pets rehomes greyhounds that have retired from racing or who are unsuitable for racing life.
All of the program’s greyhounds are behaviourally assessed for suitability as a pet and have undergone a minimum six weeks of foster care; are vet-checked, vaccinated, microchipped, desexed, intestinally wormed, heart-wormed and lifetime registered with council.
