The grounds of Christ Church Mount Vincent will be open to animals and their owners this Sunday for the annual Blessing of the Animals service.
The service is staged by the Anglican Parish of Mount Vincent and Weston in recognition of St Francis of Assisi, who is held to be the patron saint of animals and the natural environment.
The service has a particular resonance for the parish priest, the Rev Dr Theresa Angert-Quilter. She and her husband John are both members of the Third Order of Anglican Franciscans.
“This simple service reflects the influence Francis has had on the world over the past eight hundred years,” Dr Angert-Quilter said.
“Many of the environmental and welfare concerns which are prominent in today’s world have a remarkable resonance in the teachings of Francis.
“We welcome our friends from within the parish and the surrounding district who may wish to have their pets blessed as part of this service.”
The service will start at 1pm, with a picnic lunch beforehand.
