Works from a trio of Hunter Valley artists are currently on exhibition at Cessnock Regional Art Gallery.
Beach and Bush features 60 paintings by Pokolbin artist Janine Matthews and ceramics by emerging Newcastle artists Melissa Bull and Jessica Pyne.
The theme for the exhibition concentrates on the Australian bush and beach with references to the natural environment, backyards, summer holidays and a country childhood.
“For this exhibition I’ve selected subjects that hold a special place in my heart,” Matthews said.
“The subjects of the paintings are an emotive response to the local country areas where I have always lived and of various family beach holidays.”
More than 60 people attended the exhibition’s opening on Saturday, October 1.
Beach and Bush continues at Cessnock Regional Art Gallery until Sunday, October 23.
Gallery hours are 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays). Entry is free.
Meanwhile, Melissa Bull will be the guest speaker at the gallery’s Art After Hours event on Thursday, October 20 at 5.30pm.
Bull will talk about her recent trip to China, which she did as part of a scholarship.
