However, Maitland City Hunters (59.5) can jump into the lead with a home game on Tuesday night against cellar-dweller Edgeworth Eagles.
East Cessnock Comets closed the gap on the top two with a 10-5 win against Alder Park last week and is now firmly in the mix for one of two spots in the top-six play-offs.
The Kurri Kurri Cannons were looking to bounce back when they hosted East Maitland Griffins on Tuesday night after an upset 9-6 loss to Lambton Rosellas.
Before Tuesday’s encounter, the Cannons were third in their group on 54 points behind Nelson Bay 59 and the surprise leaders East Maitland on 64.
