Teacher Dianne Parry said the activity was part of stage one’s science and technology unit, in which they learned about ‘push-pull’ technology.
The students built six billy carts with the assistance of Bunnings staff, while some students also made their own cart at home.
Students teamed up in pairs to race the billy carts down a track (which they helped to design) in the playground.
Each race was timed, with eight-year-old twins Jackson and Traie Foley recording the fastest time to be named the derby winners.
Six lucky students got to take home a billy cart, which were raffled off after the race as a fundraiser for stage one activities.
