The quest usually held in late November, but the organisers have decided to take an extended break this year in order to try to attract more sponsors and introduce some new ideas to the format.
Judging panel member and Miss Cessnock City 2006, Rebecca Gillon said the quest is a unique opportunity for young women of the region to gain confidence.
“By moving the quest to the middle of 2017 we will be able to offer more girls the opportunity to enter,” Ms Gillon said.
The Miss Cessnock City Quest has been held annually since 1991.
Its aim is to find a young woman who will be an ambassador for the youth of Cessnock for 12 months.
The Advertiser will be taking expressions of interest for the 2017 quest, which the organisers expect to run mid-year.
