The omission of open age/third grade from next year’s Newcastle Rugby League competition inspired the formation of the Kearsley Crushers.
Club president Daniel Davey said he’s been contacted by about 30 potential players.
“We could end up with two teams,” he said.
“But there’s a lot of work to do between now and next year.”
Along with the great response from interested players, the club has also secured sponsorship through Kearsley Hotel and Antonio’s Barber Shop.
The Crushers are looking for more players, sponsors and volunteers and will hold a meet and greet at Cessnock Leagues Club on Saturday, December 3 at 1pm.
Anyone who can’t make it on the day is urged to contact the club by emailing kearsleycrushers.rlfc@gmail.com or messaging the Facebook page ‘Kearsley Crushers Rugby League Club’.
The club has also set up an online fundraising page: www.gofundme.com/2w0ay98.
