Representatives of the infrastructure team, human resources and the jail’s management were on hand to discuss the expansion plans with the public.
Cessnock Correctional Centre general manager David Mumford said the Lindsay Street entrance is “high on the Commissioner’s priority list”.
Mr Mumford said the new entry needs to be “safe and sustainable” and meet all of the jail’s neighbours’ and users groups’ needs.
He said the jail has already recruited 150 people for the expansion, with further recruitment drives to come.
