More than 200 players and parents attended the Cessnock Hornets’ 2017 season launch at Cessnock Leagues Club.
Hornets technical director Lino Gatti showcased the club’s 2017 season map, which focused on club unity and a new style of football.
“Youth development will play a major role at the Hornets in 2017, with coach mentoring, youth education and structure to be the cornerstone of the new football academy,” club captain David O’Hearn said.
“Teams in under-11s, 12s, 13s and 15s will benefit from the academy both on and off the field.”
Youth signings integrated into the senior squad include Lachlan Rand from Umina, Riley Taylor from Edgeworth and Travis McCabe from Warners Bay.
Many of last years under -17s and 19s will be stepping up this season, alongside life members Wade Attewell and Anthony Bower, the mercurial Luke Johnston (returning from injury) and O'Hearn, who will take to the field for his 17th season with the club.
“Cessnock Hornets are developing club culture and are working towards regaining the faith of their supporters and the town,” O’Hearn said.
