Cessnock bus company Rover Coaches has introduced a dual-door bus to its fleet for the first time since the 1940s.
The new bus has been added to the Maitland route, which continues to grow in line with the residential boom around Heddon Greta and Gillieston Heights.
Rover Coaches CEO Aaron Lewis said the centre-door bus is designed to make alighting easier and quicker on the busy service.
Mr Lewis said Rovers’ patronage has grown since the introduction of Opal cards.
Since 2014 there have been more than 70 new services added between Cessnock, Kurri and Maitland weekly.
The company continues to be an innovator, having introduced the first low-floor buses into country NSW in 1996, and being among the first to install seat belts into school buses in 2000.
