A club meeting will be held at the Kearsley Hotel on February 21, in order to discuss the intentions and organisation within the team. Those interested will be able to register upon the conclusion of meeting.
Club secretary Stephen Donn stated that “the inception of this club has allowed for the possible re-enlightened community spirit within Kearsley”.
Following the first day of registration there were a total of 20 players who indicate their interest in playing for the Kearsley Crushers. Despite this there are still spaces available for individuals interested in registering.
Coached by local rugby league identity Allan Cresswell, the club is optimistic that the team will be successful in their rugby league endeavour.
“The rich history of rugby league within the Kearsley community is something that is held dear to many locals, and the introduction of the Crushers has and will create a close-knit family for the players involved.” club president Daniel Davey.
The Crushers will be linked with the Cessnock Goannas which was forced to drop their open-age team.
The Newcastle and Hunter Rugby League all-age competition is set to begin in April, allowing for an advanced level of preparation for anyone interested in playing.
The team will be training on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm at Jeffrey Park.
