The Garden Clubs of Australia president George Hoad was among the special guests at the luncheon at Cessnock Leagues Club.
The national organisation has 700 affiliates and almost 50,000 members.
Mr Hoad said he was impressed by the fun and friendship that the members of the Cessnock club clearly enjoy.
Cessnock City Garden Club held its first official meeting on March 14, 1967 at the Cessnock Town Hall supper room.
The club has had many homes over the past 50 years, including RSL Hall in Vincent Street, the School of Arts, members’ homes, St Alban’s boys home at Aberdare and its current home, the Cessnock Girl Guide Hall.
Meetings are held at the Guide Hall on the second Wednesday of the month at 10am, and new members are always welcome.
