Just ask Cessnock couple Gwen and Boyd McDonald, who celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Tuesday.
“We’ve been compatible our whole lives,” Mrs McDonald said.
The couple – who met at the Empire Picture Theatre in Cessnock – married on March 21, 1947.
The groom was 21 and the bride was just shy of 18.
The couple has enjoyed a quiet, happy life, living in the same house their whole married lives.
“We love living in Cessnock, we wouldn’t want to live anywhere else,” Mrs McDonald said.
The McDonalds have one son (Paul), a daughter-in-law (Cathy) and two grandchildren (Fraiah and Taran).
They celebrated their anniversary with a family dinner in the vineyards.
Mr and Mrs McDonald have received letters of congratulations from Queen Elizabeth II, the Prime Minister and the Mayor of Cessnock.
