A record number of people are expected to create a sea of bright colours in the Spring Awakening lantern parade this Friday night.

Local children and parents have been busy making the lanterns at workshops this week ready for the big event.
There is normally one workshop each at Cessnock and Kurri Kurri Libraries, but a third workshop was held this year due to the strong demand.
The festival is coordinated by Cessnock Performing Arts Centre. Centre coordinator Vicki Sienczuk said she was impressed by the numbers at the lantern workshops and looked forward to another great event this year.
Ms Sienczuk said about 300 people took part in the parade last year, and anticipated about 500 this year.
The final lantern workshop is on at Cessnock Library this evening from 4pm to 5pm.
The lantern parade is set to leave Cessnock Performing Arts Centre at 5.30pm Friday and will head to the TAFE grounds for the festival.
