November 11 marks the anniversary of the Armistice that signalled the end of the First World War
Historical records indicate nine servicemen from the Kearsley area took up the call to duty during World War I, including Private Matthew Hepple, who was killed at Fromelles in 1916.
Kearsley Community Dawn Service Committee chairman Jordan Fallon said Remembrance Day is an important day, as it allows the community to remember those who gave their life for our freedom.
“We must also remember the sacrifices made by their families, who in many cases endured much hurt and suffering in the years and decades following the end of World War I,” Mr Fallon said.
”Tragically the ‘war to end all wars’ was not the last conflict local servicemen and women participated in.”
The Kearsley service will start at 10.30am Saturday.
Branxton and Greta RSL Sub-branches will hold a combined service at the Branxton rotunda from 10.45am, where local school children will collect soil samples to be added to the Anzac Memorial Centenary Project at the War Memorial in Sydney.
Remembrance Day services will also be held at Cessnock, Kurri Kurri and Weston.
