More than 60 postie bike pros tackled a wet and slippery course at Cessnock on Sunday in a bid to be crowned champion of the fourth annual Australian Postie Bike Grand Prix.

Although numbers were down slightly compared to last year, about 7000 onlookers still flooded the streets around Cessnock TAFE to watch the main race of the day, the Australian Postie Bike Grand Prix, from 3pm.
Brody Nowlan and Josh Pickering took out the title, with Daniel Wicks and Mackenzie Childs in second place and last year’s winners, Chris Watson and Michael Kirkness finishing third.
Event manager Dave Blake said despite rain and oil combining to present a slick track, competitors took the conditions in their stride.
“The speed was still quite fast even though we were dealing with a very slippery track,” Blake said.
“There were twice as many accidents as previous years, but they were all minor crashes, so from a safety perspective that was pleasing.”
This year also saw the introduction of both the inaugural celebrity race (duly taken out by professional superbike rider Jamie Stauffer) and the Ray White Cessnock Cup, for riders who finished the qualifying laps ranked 19th to 36th.
