The Special Olympics NSW and ACT swim team held a camp at Cessnock Pool on the weekend as part of their preparations for the upcoming national games in Adelaide.

The team is coached by Cessnock resident Ellena Morris and includes Cessnock swimmer Joseph Smith, who was out injured at the camp but is set to compete in the 100m and 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and relays at the national games.
Morris said the camp was held to allow the athletes to get to know their teammates and team support members in the lead-up to the competition in Adelaide in April.
Forty-five athletes from the Hunter Valley, Illawarra, Central Coast, Macarthur, North West New England, Sydney East, Sydney Hills, Sydney Northern Beaches, Sydney South, Sydney West Club, Upper North Shore and ACT attended the camp.
The camp kicked off on Saturday with a hard training session at the pool, including Zumba in the water, land work and boxing.
An inter-club swim meet was held on Sunday, with several swimmers recording personal best times (see results below).
The Special Olympics National Games will be held in Adelaide from April 16 to 20.
More than 1000 athletes with intellectual disability will compete across 11 sports, including swimming, athletics, basketball, bocce, ten pin bowling, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, sailing and tennis.
Selections for the World Games in March 2019 will follow the nationals.
