Central Coast pop-rock band Kid Zr0 performed at the school as an introduction to the Battle of the Bands unit that the year eight students will undertake this term.
Music classes are first taken in year eight at Kurri Kurri High, and teacher Jackie King said the concert was a great way to get the students excited about music straight away.
Students will learn instruments and form bands as part of their project-based learning activities for the term, with a Battle of the Bands to be held early in term two, when Kid Zr0 will come back to the school to judge the winners.
The band has a strong local following, with some of Mrs King’s year nine students asking to study their work in a unit on Australian music.
Kid Zr0’s drummer Bailey Graeber is a Kurri boy himself, and helped out on a Kurri High year 12 student’s HSC work last year.
Lead singer Brandon Alexander said the band enjoys helping out young people.
“It’s really rewarding seeing the kids enjoy themselves,” he said.
Kid Zr0 is about to embark on an Australia tour that will include shows in the Hunter region, the Central Coast and Sydney.
